Care and Handling: Diamond
A
diamond is forever if you take good care of it! Diamonds are the hardest substance on earth. They are
uniquely resistant to damage by heat or scratching, and can be cut or
polished only by another diamond ¡X but an extremely hard blow to the girdle
can cause a diamond to chip. By
having your diamond set in a relatively protective setting, and remaining
conscious of it on your body, you can keep your diamond intact for a
lifetime. Clean diamonds "glow" because the maximum amount
of light can then enter and return in a fiery brilliance. It takes just a little care to keep
them that way. Exposure
during ordinary wear to perspiration and household chemicals, like chlorine,
hairspray and even the natural skin oils, can cause buildup that dulls the
surface of a diamond. Chemicals
in the air can discolor the mounting of precious jewelry. A. How to clean the
diamond jewelry? You may
choose one of the following methods. 1.
Detergent &
Water: You can use a mild liquid
detergent combined with warm water to make a cleaning solution. Place the
diamond jewellery into the solution and then gently brush with a small, soft
brush such as an eyebrow brush from a make-up kit. You can then place the jewellery onto a strainer and rinse
with warm water. Use a
soft, lint-free cloth to dry the
jewellery gently. 2.
Ultrasonic Cleaner: It can clean jewelry in a matter of minutes using
high-frequency sound. It is a
convenient way to clean your jewelry quickly at home. However, there are many types of
machines on the market. Please
look for a right model, otherwise, it can damage some jewelry. 3.
Go to your Jeweler: Once a year, you can take your diamonds to a jeweller who can clean them
professionally and safely. The
jeweller can also check for loose prongs, worn mountings and general wear &
tear. It helps keep your precious jewellery looking as good as new. Remarks: Please
be careful when you clean your jewelry which has a combination of gemstones
and pearls. Different gemstones
and pearls need special care when cleaning. If in doubt, take it to your jeweler for a professional
cleaning. B. Storing the diamond jewelry1.
It should be stored individually in soft cloth
pouches; in a fabric-lined jewelry case; or in a box with compartments and
dividers. It can prevent the
diamond or diamonds from scratching or dulling other jewelry when not being
worn. 2.
Store your jewelry in a clean and dry place. 3.
Please mind your pets. They may swallow your diamond jewelry accidentally if you do
not store it in a safe place after removing it. C. More guidelines to help keep your diamond jewelry in top condition 1.
Don't wear it when you're doing rough work. Even though a diamond is durable, it
can be chipped by a hard blow. 2.
Don't let your diamond
come in contact with chlorine bleach or other household chemicals when you're
doing household chores. It can damage and discolor the mounting. 3.
You should also remove your diamond jewelry before
entering a chlorinated pool or hot tub. 4.
Don't leave your ring
on the rim of a sink when you remove it to wash your hands. It can easily
slip down the drain. 5.
Avoid
touching your clean diamonds with your fingers. Handle clean jewelry by its edges. 1.
